The name of Tehran is composed of the words Teh, meaning hot and Ran meaning locality Therefore, Tehran means Hot Locality. The city is the capital of Iran and Tehran Province. With a population of around 9 million in the city, 16 million in the wider metropolitan area, a total area of 18909 square kilometers area. Tehran is Iran’s administrative, economic, and cultural center as well as the major industrial and transportation center of the region. The climate has marked seasonal contrasts, with short springs and autumns separating cold winters and hot dry summers. Tehran which is situated at the foot of the towering Alborz mountain range is a cosmopolitan city, with great museums, parks, restaurants, and friendly people.
